Winter is coming! November/5/2011

During the first days of November snow storms have appeared in north Spain. Our area received heavy snowfalls, especially on Saturday. There may be around 30cm of fresh snow average from 1800-1900 in Picos de Europa, but less in inner areas.

This is not the first time that it happens this season. In mid October after an unusual warm and dry period, a few snow storms reminded us that winter was coming.

Unfortunatly, weather next week will get milder again.

It is quite funny to re-memorate this trip, after such an intensive days. This morning I woke up in the ferry that took us to Livorno again from Sardegna after 10 days of adventure as well, but that time looking for beaches, hiking or sailing to get there, camping...It turned out a fantastic trip with all the requirements to not forget it!

I hadn´t gone to the mountains since beginnings of May due to the weather and the exams (finally, I´ve finished the university:)). Fortunatly I met Joachim when we were planning the trip to Sardegna...also unforntunatley to not have met him before. Basically we motivated each other to skiing before leaving at least once.

The weather was gonna be acceptable at all, so early in the morning we drove to Gran Paradiso National Park. While we were driving we could see how the Mont Blanc shines in a random morning of June.

The path to the refuge was without snow like in May when I came to Gran Paradiso. We could use the track skins from 2800.

Ahead, we would have one of the glaciar of the park without risks.

At the bot of the mountain, once the glaciar is over we had to continue by feet again. Finally another 400m till the summit.

And summit after all...It was quite exhausting. The fog was in the other side of the valley, although in certain times it moved and we doubted about the visibility in the descent.

Everything went on the good way. The spring-snow was perfect. We took it in the best moment. Everything has been worth just with that turns!

Later we got the refuge again....resting, Coca Cola, and talking about all the things could have done!

I didn´t know it, but much likely that has been the last day in the Alps in "winter" season. Once, the university is over everything is fuzzy and uncertain about my future. Just hope that more and less I could reach my plans and get so many experiences like this year in some region that attract me.

Gran Paradiso, 4060m May 1 2011 (Alpes)

Sicily turned out a fantastic trip! We got around the island with the car and scooter...so funny!

Once in Torino again, the weather was stormy and mostly cloudy all the time. Just on Sunday the weather was going to be more and less nice. The best was that the previous days had snowed a bit due to some storms.

Claudio phoned me, and I decided to take advantage of such wonderful conditions. We hiked up to the refuge on Saturday. I was freaking out...the path was without snow untill the refuge that takes place at 2750m!

Suddenly it started to snow...just a little bit. It was funny. It was snowing but at the same time the Sun was shinning, so it wasn´t cold.

On Sunday we woke up even before than in Swizertland....I don´t know the reason but everybody was leaving at five in the morning...Anyway we wope up at 6am, it was soon enough.

The snow coreved was abosuletly different than before going to Sicily....much better!

We were almost on the "ski summit". The view from there is awesome...We are like 400m over the highest summits of La Vanoise, the feeling looks like we are in the top of everything.

Claudio and two french people we met in the refuge stopped there. The ridge to the real summit is exposed and crampons and piolet were required for everyone, at least in those conditions.

I´d try it alone.

As you can se the ridge is difficult. I don´t know why is considered an easy 4000m...maybe just coming until the "ski summit" or in summer without snow and ice.

I arrived at some point where a rope and other alpine gear that I didn´t have was required. It was a pity, cos I was almost there but alone and withoug equipment I decided to give me up.

I turned over my steps and carefully I went down the ridge.

Once I got the adrenaline going I set up my splitboard. The descent has been done on my own. Claudio left while I was climbing the ridge. Some clouds were coming..

The descent was awesome....I was pretty lucky to take this kind of snow in May. The slopes are pretty funny. They are wide and sloping enough.

The scenary is incredible speacilly in the highest part.

So I went down the snow changed into spring snow, but that one enjoyable. It means firm and regular, but at the same time soft.

After eating something in the refuge, we followed two skiers. Of this way, we could achieve the 2350m quote with the snow.

A really good descent taking into account this times!

Later we took the path untill the car to end maybe my mast 4000 of this year. Anyway there are a large number of 3000 that I wanna go. I also have to take a look of Castore and Polluce. If it´s worthly and the conditions are with us, we may go there as well.

Monte Thabor, 3170m April 13 2011 (Alpes)

This week, I hadn´t planned to do anything. I´m just thinking in my next trip and resting of the last 10 alpine days.

Obviosly, I couldn´t resist one sunny day more and what´s more visiting an unknown valley for me.

Carlos+Carlos went to Stretto valley. This valley is settled close to Bardonecchia, and it´s a hard-fought terrain with France. Since 1949 France took the right over the valley untill nowadays.

We left the car at 1640m...and the snow covered started at 2100m....so we had to walk a lot.

While I was walking it reminded me of the Dolomiti. I´ve never been there, but in mi opinion that looks similar.

Even on the summit the snow covered was damaged. In this part of the Alps it has far snowed below the average.

The first 200m the snow was too hard, later became softer.

We could have said that we went to Dolomiti...

A classical trip ski tour day from Torino, but there was not so much snow left to really make the most of the zone.

Now it´s time to Mediterranean style and go to Sicily!!

Ludwighöhe, 4342m April, 8-9 2011 (Alpes)

On the way back to Torino we were discussing where to go the next days. We talked about going to Zermatt or even Bern Alps. Taking into account mi position, we ended up choosing the italian side of the Monte Rosa massif.

To close up our holidays we wanna try to rise another 4000. On Friday we took the cableway till 3250m in the Gressoney ski area. That day just had to get the refuge which is settled at 3550m. We were on the verge of trying another usmmit that day, but the hot day and the time advised us against doing that.

We were resting in the terrace with an awesome view southwards.

Finally, Sun set up.

On Saturday we woke up before Sun went out.

Us on Ludwighöhe 4342m, our top ever reached. The summit is actually inside the italian boundier, despite the name.

The descent was easy and more and less enjoyable. Maybe a little bit early for me, at least. Althoug in the bottom part we had wished to start early.

From 2500m we took the Gressoney pistes. To get the village there was just one piste surrounded by the green meadows for more than 200m.

Who can doubt about the potential of taking care the snow??

Later, we drove down the valley. Probably, the most beatiful valley I have ever seen in the Alps, including Swizertland.

Allalinhorn, 4027m April 6 2011 (Alpes)

On Wednesday we decided to go away Britanniahut. We were going to try our second 4000m and we hoped the snow was funnier in norht face like in Fluschorn the previous day.

The refuge made us to wake up at 5am as well, so we had to hang out in the entrace of Metro Alpin. We didn´t wanna go up along the ski pistes, actually.

Once the ski pistes finish, we must take care due to the crevasses and seracs all along the ascent. Such alpine envoirement...we liked it!

Got the coll, just 200m left. We were thinking of the view from the summit, taking into account the incredible view we were already enjoying from the coll.

Alberto and me left the our stuffs 70m before the summit, on the other hand pablo carried the skis untill the summit.

That night, we slept in Brig. We had dinner in the terrace of Mac Donald at 9 in t-shirt in the middle of Valais valley...Definetly, hot days...

On Thursday we stopped in Maggiore lake on the way to Torino.

Fluchthorn, 3795m April, 5 2011 (Alpes)

The weather forecast for Monday said that was going to be the worst day of all our holidays. Just some clouds and snowfalls. We decided to use that day to drive to Swizertland and catch up to Britanniahut in Saas Fee valley.

Afterwards the day was sunny untill Paso del Sempione where some fog and rainfalls went with us until Saas Fee.

We took a cable way untill 3000m. From there, it´s just 45min by foot left. It was lightly snowing but it was not so cloudy.

In the last hours of the day even the sky was clearing up. We took this photo with our next goal, the Stralhorn. One of the most skiable 4000´s of the area. A dusting of new snow promised a good descent the following day....how wrong we were...

Afther checking ho poor was the dinner of the refuge in spite of bein an expensive place we fall asleep fastly until next day.

I do not like the location of the refuge, actually. We had to descend like 150m from the 3030m of the refuge to 2900m.

First sunshines on Stralhorn.

The first part are see-saw along the right side of the glaciar.

As we went ahead the wind become harder.

Closte to the Alderpass, the coll from the trail to Stralhorn turns left to the summit, the wind was almost unbereable.

On the coll we decided to give up this summit due to the strong wind. Besides making the walk dangerous, the descent would be unworthy. The wind had blown all the new snow and harden the snow covered.
Taking a lot of care we could achieve to change the track sking and set up my splitboard. We descended to 3150 from 3790m of the coll. Once there, the wind was lower and we could eat something after hours without eating.

Taking into account the time we decided to get another summit that appear in my map like skiable. It seemed to us that the wind did not blow so strong there...we were wrong again!

Now we had to cross the glaciar to the left side, something not so dangerous in April.

After almost other 2h we got the top. We could not remain there a lot of time because of the wind. Monte Rosa at the background and Stralhorn in the foreground.

Alberto an me going down. The day afer I reached the Breithorn, and this lonely 3000 seemed to me more "Alpinistic" than the other one. That´s clear that the heigh is not all...

Later, we had to reach the refuge again....It may have out of the activity..!

Actually I liked to suffer "several" weather. We could not reach the first summit due to that but the day was complete, physically hard and worthly.

Breithorn, 4164m April 3 2011 (Alpes)

After checking the bad quality of the snow covered we did not realy know what to do before going to Swizertland on Monday. Sunday was going to be another sunny day and we wanted to do the most of the days. Breithorn was out of our plans, but it arose like a good choice to take contact with the heigh before going to Swizertland and maybe the snow ´d be better.

So we drove to Cervinia to take the cableway till 3450m. The first part consisted of going along the pistes untill the breithorn coll. Behind us the views was absolutely wild.

Once got the coll, the Breithorn Plateau opens to us. This is one of the most clasical landscapes of the high Alps due to the ease of reaching it.

Despite it, the place deserves to be famouos.

The last 300m are the slope from the plateau to the summit.

It´s easy enough to get there without so much experience in winter mountain. This is considered the easiest 4000 of the Alps, and in my opinion is definetly true.

The summit is the boundier between Swizerland and Italy.

As we did not expect the snow quality was also bad. In this case so firm and irregular made us to be carefully in the first meters of the slope.

Later snow was lightly better.

The last serac before taking the pistes of Cervinia and complete almost 2200m of vertical descent.

Summing up, the day was ideal to prepare ourselves for the next days in Swizertland and visit so clasical zone.

Arp Vieille, 2963m April, 2 2011 (Alpes)

First day of skiing with Pablo and Alberto. To warm up I chose an easy classic of Aosta Valley. We were on the verge of going to Gran Paradiso but the dates did not combine very well.

The trail is the typical trip of one day. We left the car in Bonne at 1800m aprox. The day was sunny and absolutely hot.

Thanks to the blue sky we could enjoy the typical view of Alps with pine forest and snowed mountains.

From 2100 the woods dissapear.

We suffered a lot to complete the 1100m of vertical ascent due to the heat..

The last meters must be done without skis.

On the top we could put off our t-shirts and remain there enjoying the views of the 4000´s. Over there we´d be a few days later.

The descent was almost a pain with the softest snow we have ever seen. Only just in the first slope was something close to enjoyable.

Anyway, the day turned out a perfect begining to get used to the heat of the all following days.

Rocca Marchissa, 3080m March 23 2011 (Alpes)

Last day of snowboarding before leaving to Spain 3 days. In that time I went southwards I had ever gone. Afterwards, had I gone many times to Aosta valley this month. I chose Val Varaita in Cuneo region to rise this 3000 peak.

Like it´s usually in me I did not wake up early...If the conditions are ok, it just has one problem....the heat! Anyway I carried enough water, and the classical Coca Cola was waiting for me in the bar.

I left the car at 1750m with full of snow.

Upper in the valley, there is a plane. From there the peak can be seen all along the trail It is in the middle.

From the coll at 2850m I had to walk down to solve rocks. Later the slope became steeper and a little bit exposed with some rock close to the summit as you can see.

From the summit I could enjoy a different views that the previous days of Aosta. The south face of Monviso is less awesome than one can be seen from Torino. Anyway it is!

Southwards the Marittime alps. Actually I do not know if this summit belongs to them, or on the contrary still belongs to Cozie alps.

From the summit to the coll, the snow was spring but enjoyable. Later due to be north face the snow remain more powder till 2300m.

After that, there were like 400m left with hard or spring snow. The day finished with two Coca Cola and good music close to the car...I had to rest after 1350m...

Monte Croix, 2480m March- 20- 2011 (Alpes)

Just one pic with the good powder I could enjoy in a memorable Saturday in La Thuille....Turns and turns in every single virgin slope...

On Sunday I did not know what I should do at all. I had in mid the Monte Colmet but there was no track going there because of the valanches, so finally I though I should do something safer.

Fulllll of energy I drove to Aosta valley again. That day was the first sunny day after the snowfalls....I had not planned that, but on thursday I read on gulliver that in this zone had snowed less than Piemonte.....so the I should take advantage, for sure!

At 2100m the forest is over and the wide slopes start...Look at the strong wind of the ridge...

After catching up to the coll, a long ridge must be follow to get the real summit. Mont Blanc is seen for all along the ridge. The strong wind, the solitune and such wonderful views made that like actual alpinism.

On Saturday I went to La thuille. It was going to be the worst day of the weekend....anyway, the Sun was shinning all the day there unlike other places of the valley.....GOOD CHOICE!....if I had been with someone, it would have been a "key" day to show pics of fresh snow....but I was alone....anyway I enjoyed it sooooo much! Incredible the potential of freeride in La Thuille! What´s more I just visited the Italian part...

Carlos^2 went to Pont to achieve their first 3000´s of the season. The day seemed like a winner.

The track to follow is easy. Just have to way up the long valley.

Few km later...we could not see the car...just the huge valley.

The last part takes place on the Etret glacier. It´s a small glacier like ones of Pyrinees.

We are almost on summit!

Summit! I broke the last record of Morefreddo by a few meters...Anyway, now it´s time to go higher!! Monte Bianco appears behind my nek.

Monday at Sun!

The big slope of Francous Pelouxe in the right hand side with 700 af 35º constantly. I must do that in the next...In the middle il Colle della Finestra, and monte Pintas in the left hand side.

Good descent in spring snow...fast and safety! Later to take out the car of the snow we had to dig....to dig a lot...and unworthly! We called the 4x4 of Claudio´s father.

On Friday I went to Prali with a formidable spring snow and sunny day. I´l try to do the most of tomorrow because on Sunday bad weather is coming. Perhaps, next week had more powder!!!

Punta Aquila, 2120m 19-Febrary-2011 (Alpes)

I arrived home at 7am...I was on the point of leaving directly but I decided to take a nap. I prefered to do this to not enjoy the day because of being too tired. Anyway, some day I should do that althougt it is really easy and frequented. There are just 50km from Torino.

I arrived in Alpe Colombino at 14:30 where the track starts. There are 850m of desnivel between the bot and the top part. I tried to go as fast as I can, and I got the summit in 80min.

Last slope to Punta Aquila...

In spite of being so frequented the final ridge seem to me more difficult than MS. In fact I put of my split to make the last meters by steps. It was a nice surprise...a little adventure!

I ate something at the top to relax with the silence and solitude. The views from there are different from any point of the high valleys. It´s really close to the city...

Finally I could leave my own marks especially in the first slopes. There were some virgin parts. The snow kept on being good as before days.

Summig up, a good choice for cheering an afternoon up! Today is snowing again. I´ll have things to do this week but I´m planning to do at least 3 days. I´m realising that skiing in the resorts is boring...especially if the conditions off-piste are ok.

Today had been a perfect day for a longer descent. We were on the verge of going to Dormillouse. We ended up going here bcs there was for sure the skifoot and it was safer.

It was my firts time in Val di Viu, what´s more with autenthic powder! We started from Pian Benot. There are a lot of mountains here, but in advanced spring because untill that the roads are closed.

On Wednesday and Thursday we visited Sestriere and Cervinia. The days were sunnies and warms and the snow was quite good unless in some slopes at the end of the day that appears the ice base. We really enjoyed it!

For Friday I chose this peak because is the classics of the classics in Aosta. Every single skier of Aosta has rised this peak. It is easily reachable by a forest piste till 2200m. I knew that the descent was not going to be the typical freeride shoots but the location is perfect to make an idea of all the valley. In addition, the piste would also help Cesar to ride up.

As I knew the descent was boring, although there were some parts more enjoyable! What´s more without sprints!

The last lights of the day brought "magic" views with the huts, trees and these glorious mountains and landscapes....an so close to bit cities!

On Saturday we rested and on Sunday we went to Monginevro. We checked the lack of snow...anyway this days are snowing and at least 30-50cm of fresh snow is forecasted.

Cesar has come and for his first day I decided to have a backcountry day with alpine enviorement. We drove to Crissolo to rise a classic peak of the zone. We started at 1700m in Pian Regina, just 300m below of where Po river is born.

In this side there is neither forest nor any tree. There are just rocks. On the other hand, the best view of Monviso can be seen from the beggining to the top.

The day is really hot despite being so high. Together with the melt of snow, the run was tiring especially for him.

The next days we went to Sestriere and Cervinia! It turned out cheaper thanks to the discounts for students....just 18e the skipass for Via Lattea with more than 400km! I must go more in the next days...

M. Gaissiez 2588m 5-Febrero-2011 (Alpes)

On Saturday we went to Val Thures. It´s a valley really resourceful for skiing. I must come back here again to do two of the classics close to Torino: "Dormillouse" and "Terra Nera". Yesterday we did not have enough time. I should sleep more than the previous days. I caught up with Claudio at 9am.

The travel time took us longer than I expected. Anyway, we were not in a hurry. The days are already longer. The first part, rough 2km, are flat.

From the summit we can see the big slope for us! There were places still virgin to leave ours marks!

The result was A W E S O M E! The best descent I´ve ever had here!!! 500m of descent with a perfet snow, with just some scattered pine and steep enough to go fast with that deep snow! I could not take any photo.....

Another sunny day in Piemonte! That Thursday I went alone to Val Germanasca. This valley is also known by "13 laghi". Several lakes below peaks like Cialancia and others appear, fixing this valley as summer place near to Torino.

I left the car in Giordano with some others skiers who had already begun before. The first part consist of crossing the forest like in the most of the smallest peaks like these.

Going up through the forest is beatiful but it becomes unpleasent when you are descending because the trees do not let you to choose your way and turn over whenever or wherever you want.

Little by little, did the forest clear up from 2000m.

I started to have a wide views behind me. At the foreground a big rock buried under snow and strating from left-hand side a steep ridge with some pines in the right-hand side. There were 300m still left to the summit.

And summit! I was talking with a man in the summit who took me a pic. He said how worse was this year in amount of snow specially in some parts. He made me worry aboit it...I do not wanna to stop snowboarding until July!

The descent was good just until the first trees. After the descent turned out no so pleasent due to some factors like: deep snow, the big amount of trees and the little slopness of the terrain. Anyway as you can see the first slopes remind me of the greatest snow days in Asturias after the snowfalls.

Summing up, another good day in the Alps with a little bit more of 1000m vertical ascent and a greats turns specially from the summit to the forest. On Friday I went to Bardonecchia to ride faster on the pistes!

Siamo partiti da Bousson. Piano B dopo di vedere che si dovevano di mettere le catene per salire al paese del piano iniziale. Non tropo presto in mattina per svagliare il punto d´incontro con Claudio cominziamo a salire tra il bosco fino al laco Nero.

Io sopra 2200m e il mare bianco. sembra che c´e piu neve de la che veramente c´e, specialemente sulla versante sud fino 2000m. Mal ano di neve sull ovest dell´Alpi diceno...

Un po piu di tempo ci prendeva per riuscire la vetta. Ne guardiamo la discesa e con ancora posti senza traciare!!

For a sunny Monday I chose Val Troncea. The aim for today was to enjoy the slopes of this technical easy mountain. I started in Pattemouche at 1600m still in the shade.

From the beginning one of the several 3000´s of the valley can be seen. The Morefreddo is settled on the other side of the valley.

There is a gap of 600m between the following and the previous pic. At 2200 the forest clears up and the slopes are very attractive.

I followed a skiprint among the last trees of the woods. The final slopes to the summit were nearby.

Finally I got the top. Just for commenting, Today was the first time in 2 years in going beyond of the quote of 2650m of Torre Cerredo.

I made a mistake...I followed another sprints for the descent. I could not see another sprint of descending over the good slopes I had seen in the ascent. The result was a mediocre descent with just specific parts in good conditions.

I keep on warming up with the splitboard. Today was the record with 1200m of vertical ascent. I hope the quality of snow gets better nextly, and there were sunny days to enjoy it!

Monte Blegier, 2585m 17-01-2011 (Alpes)

After going twice to warm up with the splitboard, the last Monday was the first day in reaching a summit and having a clear descent. We drove to a small village called Pragelato about 80km from Torino.

Carlos went out of the woods.

Carlos and the wide "triangle" of monte Pelvo or Francous Pelouxe. I´m planning to go there in the next weeks...a really fast and sloping slope!

The summit is the geografical boundier between Val Chisone and Val di Susa. I did not take pictures with mi camera from the summit.

Just ten meters below the summit we prepared the stuffs.

In spite of those warms days the amount of snow was big enough, although the quality was not very good especially in this south face. Anyway just in this cornice I could take something similar to "farinosa".

Before I wasted some sunny days in studying an exam that I had on Thursday....and got cultural weekend in Venice! In the following days more...if the weather lets me set out some trip!

Staldhorn, 2467m 1-Januar-2011 (Alpes)

Everything went on the bad way...We had just arrived in Torino and the hostel phoned me saying that we did not have room and later phoned off..., furthermore my friend got ill. A couple of hours we did not have plan for the following days. We ended up booking by internet one night in Brig in Swizertland.

In the morning of 31 we did the 240km that separate Torino and Brig through Paso del Sempione. We spent 4h in the resort: Blatten-Belalp.

The following day I woke up ill as well, with 38.8ºC. I never get ill...Anyway, we had to make the most of the trip and we stopped in the pass to rise some easy and fast peak. We finally chose the Staldhorn.

Our last adventure of December drove us to Cuneo´s province. We were looking for going some mountain with great views of Monviso, easy and south face due to the really firm of the snow. The Monte Briccas complied with al those requirements.

Our goal seen from the road. As you can see it looks easy but it also offers a good slopes.

We started from a small village close to Crissolo at 1500m. The first part of the ascent consists on going up through the forest at 1800m. Later, the forest is clearing up with just some trees scattered till 1900m. From there we just had to overcome the large slope untill the summit.

We doubted about our descent due to the hard snow. We relied on the Sun to melt a little bit the snow in the south face. Our decision was sucessful.

The descent was a peaceful chain of turns towards Monviso.

We had 1000m of vertical drop and 700 of good descent. Good numbers for everybody and specially for Carlos and his third day on skis!

Now it´s time for some parties before leaving Italy...but towards the end of December I´ll be here again to celebrate the Ney Year in Courmayeur!! Good times are coming!!

Carlos and me decided to take advantage of a doubtful day. It was doubtful in two sides: the weather forecast and the few hours slept. Anyway the Alps rules and not early in the morning we were driving to Orco valley.

The day begun luckfully for us (just begun...) because the Sun was shining on our goal where as in the surroundings the day was mostly cloudy. The trail consists of overcoming the wide and easy slopes that run from 1400 in Carello to almost 2200m os Punta Cia or Cialma.

In two ours we reached the summit. We also chose this peak because it offers a wonderful views of Gran Paradiso. The day over there was not so good so we had to imagine it.

On the other side, the day looked absolutly nice.

Colle di Bousson, 2200m 4-Dic-2010 (Alpes)

New day of finding out the Alps area near to Torino with Carlos. The idea was to drive to a small village close to Cesana. The time travel was a pleasent way along the Susa valley and staring at the summits of each side of the valley.

The day looked cold with -10ºC at 1300m in the morning. This sector is like a circle with some lakes in the center surrounded by summits of 2400m more and less. The idea was to walk to the lake and later reach one of these summits.

Everything went on the good way...when suddenly one of my rented snowshoes was broken. We were on the point of giving up the day due to the deep snow. Anyway, we decided to try going on. We reached much farther that we expected in that moment.

I do not know how, but I got the coll of Bousson with 2200m and 800m on our legs...The descend was slow because of the light slopness but pleasent among the tress, the views of the high mountains and the special light of december´s Sun.

Good day special for Carlos and his first day of backpacking, he is getting on fastly! I have an exam on Tuesday, but later I´ll be ready for more whatever snow issue.

My opening day in alpine backcountry!

On last thursday I was keen to start mounteneering. I could not wait more for bringing my equipment, so I decided to rent a snowshoes. Anyway I was going to spend money in the skipass so...

I had not my car yet, so I went to bardonecchia (1300m). It is an alpine village in high Valle di Susa. I meet with Valerio in the train station. We had not seen before, but we was talking in the train. He was hesitating wheter coming with me. Finally, he fell into temptation and we went together.

We explored a wide and large ridge that ends in Punta Nera (3042m) in Rho valley. The other side of the valley is closed with Rocca Bernauda as highest peak (3228m).

We stopped at 2150m due to the deep snow. It made difficult our progress. The descend was among the forest with deep and difficult snow like in ski films.

It was a good day with 800m of vertical drop. On Saturday more!

Prali, abriendo temporada en los Alpes 20-Nov-2010

I´ve always though that my first ski-resort in the Alps would be a big a typical or well-known resort. I was wrong. Last Sunday, I went with other erasmus to Prali.

Prali is one of a large number of ski-resort out of the aims of the tourists. The road to get there is what they call "dirty road", like Tarna in Asturias for example. No highways, no trains...just a single road. The resort consists of two chairlifts. The number of pistes is lower than Pajares. Anyway, it has an astonishing 1100m of vertical descent. It runs from 1400 to 2500.

For an alpine local this is a poor ski-resort...for me, it is unforgettable...1100m of going on of "discesa"!!!!

Snow is here, and in a big amounts! This weekend I go to Svizzera again, but the next week Bardonecchia will be opened. I will be there and ready for skiing as much as I can.

Ancora stiamo in tempo di sognare...e si é scoprendo delle terme calde sotto il Mont Bianco megliore da en nessuno oltro posto...

Autunno alpino é veramente bello, e rimanere dentro d´ una sorgente calda a 30º con 5ºC fuori e guardare queso...e indiminticabile (anche le spese...ja-ja)!

Pico Lomas, 2430m 25-Abril-2010 (C.Cantabrica)

Thanks to the 4x4 of Alberto, we could make this clasical activity. The large track...that it´s an irksome restriction, becomes a pleasent walk by 4x4.

We left the car at 1900m. From there, we could see the three main peaks. Just in the middle, it´s Lomas peak.

In the firts part, we had to carry all on our rocksack.

Once in a coll at 2200m, we only had to rise 200m more.

The hard Sun of the last weeks has rather damaged the snow covered, even in high height as you can see. At the banckground appears Curavacas...

and Picos de Europa.

We descended directly from the top. The line was very entertaining with a pipe between some rocks and a wide slope in the bot part, although the snow was quite soft.

II - Horcada de Santa Maria, 2350m 10,11-Abril-2010 (Picos de Europa)

For that second and last day, the day before we had planed to go to Horcada Santa Maria through Les Merines coll.

Like Saturday, we woke up early. The dinner and the breakfast didn´t seem to me enough for hungry mountaniers. In spite of it, we managed to reach our goal.

The first part of the day consisted on overcoming the LLampa cimera to Les Merines coll.

In two hours, we had got it. The views from the coll (2000m) of the Cantabrican Mountains are particurarly beatiful and different from other points of Picos.

The goal for that day: Horcada Santa Maria. It is the small coll of the middle more and less.

I thought that the snow was too hard in its first part for my level, but finally I was able to descend succesfully. Probably that first part reachs 40º.

We arrived at the car quite tired. From the refuge to the car, our rockset were very heavy. At least, we had not to go up.

I - Vegarredonda to Jou Canal Parda zone, 2295m 10-11 Abril-2010 (Picos de Europa)

Finally, weather was going to be nice so Alberto, Pablo and me set off our weekend in western masiff of Picos de Europa. It was a surprise because this year everyone was used to lack of nice weather.

We gathered in Oviedo at 4pm, and drove to Pan de Carmen (1050m). From the track, views of Torre de Santa Maria and others.

The first day, we only had to get to Vegarredonda.

Friday´s night we were discussing about what we were going to do on Saturday and Sunday. For Saturday we decided to go to Traviesos Peak or somewhere near it.

We started walking rather early. It was good, because we were able to walk quite time before the Sun beat us hardly.

They could put their skis at 1750m. Before there, we used the grampones.

Gradually we reach high, and the enviorement changes to full of snow wherever you look.

Once there, we separated. Pablo went to Traviesos peak (2380m) and Alberto and me went to a coll between it and Canal Parda peak (2295m). We didn´t go with him due to bad look of its descend (there are too many rocks and not much snow in its beggining).

From our "summit" we enjoyed the similar views.

As you can see, our descend was pretty good, specially for my board.

Few minutes later, we got together again with Pablo and we could look the extraordinary descend from the top, despite rocks.

In spite of being a hot day, snow was delicious in the whole descend.

The descend was more continous than I expected. We though we only could descend as far as 1700m more and less.

But, at the end of the day, we could skiing as far as Vegarredonda. Against any forecast, we were linked the rests of snow, which end nearby Vegarredonda.

Thanks to Alberto, I can put the graphic of desnivel. The total is 1000.

Becoming hardened in The Moñetas, 2200m 4-Abril-2010 (Picos de Europa)

Last Sunday Pablo, Damian (Pablos´s friend) and me went to Invernales de Sotres (1020m). Our intention was to ascend some of those peaks: Escamellau, peña Castil, Juan de la Cuadra or Tiros de Navarro.

In spite of getting up early, we arrived at Invernales at 11:15am. The snow began quite up.

They could put their skis and I could put the snowshoes at 1500m, after 500 of desnivel on the rucksack (In Spain we usually say: "portear").

The terrain of Picos is very chaotic, and this, is particuraly, chaoticer. We were linking the Jous. We tried to lose the less height as it was possible.

Pablo is looking the Tiros de Navarro (2600m), which was for a little period of time our aim.

NO, It is not the summit of Tiros de Navarro. The time and the snow condition (deep snow) didn´t let us to reach that summit. We stopped at 2200 in a "hill". The sights are wonderful.

The descent was very strange. It was not continuos. However we enjoyed the different slopes or part of it, into the particular enviorement of Picos.

In the pic below was where we were not able to descend more.

We were mountering for 8h and we made 1350m of desnivel. We were rather tired.

The Picos de Europa don´t provide larges descends or "useful" tracks for ski, if you let me say that but, apart of the awesome enviorement, like I say in the tittle: we have become hardened a bit more.

I suppose that I will not able to do too much "snow-hikking". The line of snow-covered is very high. We need the last snowfall...but it hasn´t fallen this year yet.

Escaño Peak, 2106m 27-Marzo-2010 (C.Cantabrica)

This year I hadn´t gone to the east-south part of Cantabrican mountains yet. I watched a recent illustrated feature of this zone on internet. Finally, we decided to do this peak. In fact, last year I had already though about going to this peak, but I went to other nearby peak (Coriscao).

Noel picked me up at Llevinco, and we got it through San isidro and Señales pass (If I had gone from Aviles, I would have gone by Tarna pass). We left the car in a bend near to Pandetrave pass. We started walking at 11am.

The track is pretty beautiful. In its begining It runs through tipical Cantabrican forest.

After two km, the forest began to finish. Beyond it, we can look the high part of the small valley. The valley is sorrounded by mountains, and the highest is the Escaño peak.

In the picture below doesn´t appear the Escaño peak, which is a bit more to the left. We choosen a different way to get it. Once finished the forest, we turned right over the first summit that appears in the photo (1830m aprox).

The terrain was quite hard.

We had a little problem to get over the last meters. Those meters were very vertical, and Noel hadn´t got piolet and grampones. The snow wasn´t hard, but the snowshoe didn´t hold. A rocks helped me. I put the grampones, and I helped him to pass the rocks.

In the picture below you can see him, still in the rocks.

It isn´t the summit, but there were very wonderful views of Picos de Europa.

The rest of our track ran over the wide ridge as far as Escaño peak.

The route lasted 5 hours, and was wonderful, in spite of being a quite unknown zone.

Neat day in Remelende Peak, 1888m 22-marzo-10 (C.Cantabrica)

Like every Monday, Noel and me finished our lessons at 11am. Weather in mountain was very nice. The last rainy and warm days have damaged quite the snow covered. Our intention was to do some easy and fast peak. Remelende Peak was the perfet activity to ours aims.

We arrived at Señales´s pass at 2pm. The day was sunny and very neat. It was perfet to take photos and to enjoy a well day in the mountains.

As soon as had we begun, we were already taking photos. This zone is known like Pinar de Lillo, and is the unique zone where there are authentic pines in Cantabrican mountains. It´s so different than others places of here, that seems like you stay in other far mountains.

Near to the summit the snow has dissapeared. The contrast with the brown of the terrain, the white of the clouds and high mountains and the blue of sky...let us to take really good photos.

And summit!!! There are a fantastic views of Lago Peak and Mampodre Masiff.

Let´s go down! I like very much the path...It seems that will never finish or it is missed in the horizon.

In spite of I am not a photographer, I could afford to take creative photos.

The descend of that peak was really short. We knew it. Anyway we enjoyed it very much in certains slopes.

In conclusion, the activity was really good with only 2 hours and 300m of desnivel.

I suppose that in next days I will be able to do some larger and higher if weather lets me/us.

Requejines Peak, 2012m 16-Marzo-2010 (C.Cantabrica)

On last Tuesday I finished my lesson at 13h, so I couldn´t afford to go far away. I drove to San Isidro, and once there I would choose the peak. From the road a good line in Requejines Peak attracted my attention.

Yes, I had not time to doubt. So, I parked in the parking of Cebolledo.

I followed a man who goes in the same direction. Although, I had to leave early. He went to other place.

I had to put the grampones due to sloping of terrain. In 1h and 20min I reached the summit.

The most beatiful views were eastwards.

The descend had very well snow...The main disadvantage is that was short enough...but It is good to days when you don´t have more time.

I have descended over the "red line". You can´t see the all print because of the perspective in that photo was taken.

I wish the weather would improve for the next days.

Peña Cerreos, 2104m 15-Marzo-2010 (C.Cantabrica)

Began the week with a hard Monday...I am being ironic! The forecast for that days were nice, so I deciced to take advantage. We went out of lessons at 11 am. Noel and me drove to Tuiza.

The mountain refuge of Meicin. You can see the Cerreos peak at the left, which is the goal for that day. The first step was rise to Terreros coll.

As you can see the slope would seem very well. Later we checked it, with positive result...jaja.

From Terreros, the sights of Peña Ubiña Pequeña are fantastic.

Noel couldn´t rise the peak. The grampones were necessary for the last 50m. He prefered wait me.

Amazing...I hope I descend peña Ubiña next month.

The slope from the peak to the coll was too little snow. But the rest was formidablous, specially from the coll to the refuge.

We could skiing as far as 1400m.

The path runs in a wild enviorement. A big forest, and at the background La Tesa y La Mesa.

In 5 hours we were in Tuiza again.

Peña El Robezo, 2046m 14-Marzo-2010 (C.Cantabrica)

The last Sunday, I drove to Ventana´s pass. I had problems on the road because of the snow covered. I had to put the chains, but one of them was faulty. I missed 3hour. Finally, the snowplough appeared and with their help and tools, we achieved pass the worst part.

When I was be able to start walking, already it was 2pm! The goal of that day was "explore" the Colines peak and surroundings. Firstly, there is a path as fas as Cuspasante.

Once there, I was speaking with a skier who came from Colines peak. He told me that Colines was bad due to the wind and rocks for being skiing. In fact, he turned back before the summit.

Finally, we deciced to rise Peña El Robezo, which had better look than the slop of Colines. From the summit...

I made a good choice. The snow was awesome!

The descend goes on through Las Vallinas.

In the bot part, there was 200m left of descent.

In spite of the problems on the road, going in a hurry and the bad aspect of the main goal (Colines peak)...I enjoyed a really good descend in this unknown zone of Ubiña for me.

Pico Sagrado Corazon, 2214m 9-Marzo-2010 (Picos de Europa)

It seemed difficult, but finally I had a sunny day. We chose eastern massif, which was full of snow. I began walking at 11am aprox. I came across with ten Guardias Civiles en Jito de Escarandi.

In the pic we see the Canal de las Vacas, over there I descended later. But in the ascent I went on the track to Caseton de Andara. It also shows the aesthetic Macondiu.

I followed the footprint of skiers.

Once I overcame the Trasmacondiu coll, the views were 100% high mountain.

My intention was to ascent the Sagrado Corazon peak. To do it, I kept on following the footprint as far as San Carlos coll. Once there, I ascended on my own the two hundred meters that there were between me and the summit.

The snow of the wide ridge was quite damaged for the wind. It was almost all ice.

Although you can´t see on the picture, wind was quite strong. It didn´t help me to take more photos.

Few minutes later we started the descendt. I didn´t descend over the main slop of that peak. I prefered descend on the way I had rise before due to my unknowledge of the terrain and the risk of avalanche, mainly.

Anyway I enjoyed the recent snow covered...All them into a fantastic place... What else can I ask?

The second part of the descent goes through Canal de las Vacas, from 1900m to 1300m. It has a form like a pipe, quite narrow in bot part, but easy.

Finally, the day in dates: 1150m of vertical ascent and the same of descent, 4h50min in total.

Later I spent some time looking the central massif and how shone while the clouds played with it.

Are you sure that you dont´t like mountains?

I have no doubts, It is a fantastic place.

I can call this day: "the day after Xynthya". I got up at 10am. I saw on internet the weather was more and less nice in the mountains, so I decided to go hikking. I went to San Isidro´s range to rise Rapaina Peak.

Those are good options, but my peak of today is Rapaina peak (below pic).

I had to overcome the bank of the river, because I wasn´t be able to cross before. It was swollen due to positive temperatures and rain of the previous days.

Later we rose the main slope, which it runs from 1550m to the top.

From the top, 2022m, we enjoyed the excelent views of the zone.

Later we descended the 500m. The snow wasn´t too good...The rain and wind had hardened the snow. In spite of it, the snow could be skied. When I was finishing the route, it snowed weakly.

My sport watch has counted 700m of vertical ascent. It is good, specially when I have though going nowhere.

Today, we went to Millaro for skiing the Braña Caballo. We didn´t take de correct path so finally we arose other peak rather less important than Braña Caballo. Although it is almost unknown, it has a well descent as you can see.

The descent was funny, but short. In spite of it we descenced 300m. Two pics of Pablo when we started to go down.

I look forward to have nice weather...and go skiing to high mountains. The route of today was too fast and short.

Pico Lago, 2009m (C.Cantabrica) 10-Febrero-2010

Today has been the first day before exams. The forecast wasn´t too good, so I put all the equipment into the car to be able to choose between resort or backcountry. The decision was so difficult...that I end up choosing both.

I was skiing in Fuentes with a fantastic snow, where there were 10-15cm of new snow on the old snow in off-piste. I was all the time descending on off-piste to enjoy "breaking" the snow.

After skiing for 4hours, I drove to Señales´s pass to rise Lago Peak. It´s an easy peak, perfect to make in 1 or 2 hours.

The weather looked worse, but I trusted on my lucky..jaja

In a few minutes I had already overcome the main slope, through virgin pine woods (pinar de Lillo).

Once up, the "path" goes on over the ridge, as you can see on the video.

And the descent...with an excelent views.

The last slope of today with an incredible snow, like in the resort...but in a mountain away from people or buildings, whatever makes it more genuine.

Weather for next days is going to be bad...I hope It gets better...

I decided to take advantadge of last snowfall and this sunny day and when I finished my penultimate exam I went "skiing".

I hadn´t thought the peak for today, so finally I started to go up using the slopes of Fuentes de Invierno. Once on the top of a nearby peak of the resort, I went down to the other valley "Riopinos". The descent had 250-300m aproximatly with good and fast snow. I enjoyed it very much.

The pictuce below is the view from the top. In there it appears the "Vegarada" area, mainly.

Later I had to overcome the meters spent in the descent. It was a nice day; it wasn´t too hot, so it wasn´t too hard.

Once on the ridge again, I saw a lines in a slop (of Toneo Peak) in front of me. In the pics below you can see the zone. The second was taken with zoom.

I walked a few minutes over the ridge to reach this zone. The picture below is a part of the slope after I descended. It was sloping enough, It was funny!

When I arrived at home I could see the other face of the same peak at the same hour....with an enourmous avalanche...I don´t want to think what could have happened if I had chosen descend over there.

Later I kept on skiing to my car. On the pics below appear some steeps peaks of "Sierra del Ajo" and the forest below them. Actually, the Cantabrian mountains look winter.

Highway to Powder Cantabrico 1-10,Sunday-2010

The snowfall fell on Saturday was the biggest in Oviedo and precoast in the last fifteen or twenty years. It led to astonishing views of "Y", which was lightly snow covered.

A few km later, the Highway had more snow. It was a surprise, because such near Oviedo and be able to see those amount of snow, it´s very rare.

I left the highway, and the road gets worse.

This reminded me a documentary about the "Ice Roads" in Finland and other northern countries.

I picked up Noel at Bello, and then we set out the most interesting part of the path. We had to put chains to rise the pass of San Isidro. We arrived at parking of the resort 3 hours later of my departure. It was very cold -10ºC at 13h. Althought it was nice, if it´s compared with the -17ºC at 9h!!

We had 4-5h ahead to enjoy the excellent quality of this deep snow, which it isn´t abundant in our mountains.

Pinar de Lillo o skiar nieve polvo entre pinos 26-Dic-2009 (C.Cantabrica)

Con intencion de hacer el pico Lago llegamos a las Señales y nevando. ¿como en un dia con prediciones aceptables puede acabar nevando? Niebla, tal vez.

Nos internamos en el unico bosque de pinos no replantados de la cordillera. Que lastima que no haya mas, como en casi todas las cordilleras.

La nieve, aunque escasa, es de buena calidad.

Llegados a la arista, decidimos no subir el pico. Total para que?

Nos calzamos las tablas y para abajo. Poco desnivel...pero menos da una piedra. Al menos la nieve esta excelente, aunque el relieve es otra historia.

Mas abajo le toca a Noel en otras.

Tipica ley. Cuando te marchas, el tiempo parece que mejora.

Por segundo dia consecutivo no hago lo que tenia pensando, pero al igual que yaer, todo tiene su lado positivo. No siempre se esquia buena nieve por un bosque de pinos.

Incursion por las Moñetas 25-Diciembre-2009 (Picos de Europa)

Con intenciones de hacer el Escamellao por el Vallallon, aunque ni subimos el pico ni dimos con el Vallallon...De esta planta estaba el pico en cuestion desde la pista. Toda una aproximacion.

Comenzamos a subir por las Moñetas, con muy poca nieve.

Intentamos dar con la pala de acceso a las Grajas, pero no dimos con ella. Nos enrevesamos un poco.

O demaseado a veces. Raquetas extrem.

Aun asi dimos con lo que podria ser el Vallallon, pero estabamos muy confundidos. Total a unos 1930m en algun lugar de la cara Norte del Escamellao, nos ponemos las tabls y bajamos. Todo un lujo, viendo lo escasa y mal repartida que esta la nieve. Algo dura por el viento en algunos lados y polvo en otros.

Un ultimo vistazo antes de bajar.

Tiros de Navarro con 2600m, es otra historia.

Y conseguimos bajar hasta la nada despreciable altura de 1450m. Unos 400m de desnivel con buena nieve (donde la habia claro).

Jornada un tanto deslucida por un exceso porteo no aprovechable y esa sensacion que siempre queda cuando no haces la cumbre, o como en este caso ni si quiera das con la forma sencilla de ir. Aun asi 900m de desnivel, 400 de descenso en buena nieve, y fichada una canal (que no es el Vallellon) con muuy buena pinta, aunque algo pindia a la vista.

Sin nieve para abrir la estacion, pero suficiente en algunas palas bien orientadas. Es obligacion de un buen aficionado, buscarlas...y el resultado han sido uno estupendos primeros giros sobre una nieve decente, muy suelta..no dura como aparentaba estar.

Bautizo de la tabla, 180e...no es tan dificil hacerse con un buen equipo sino buscas la marca de turno. Llega al coche sin rayonazo pese al poco espesor.

En horas y para recordar lo fugaz que puede ser una visita a la nieve:

11h-salgo de mate

13h-ya estoy de vuelta en el coche

Tarde para aprovechar y chapar algo.

Agujas imponente siempre.

Ya queda menos para rodar...

Miercoles voy a vivir el temporal que dejara las primeras neives por aqui in situ. Salgo del Cable hago vivac en unas cuevas cerca de horcados rojos y a parte de verlo en directo pues adquiero un poco de "caracter" no todo van a ser jornadas de sol bajando palas.

Ya queda menos para el invierno!

Hago un dia libre entre guerras, y bueno, puestos a ir al monte intentar dar un ultimo coletazo con el snow para esta buena temporada. No queda otra que ir Picos, y voy de neuvo a una clasica como es torre Blanca. Con mas tiempo, y sin tanta nube que "evoluciono" quiza hubiera ido hacia el LLambrion.

Saliendo con los pozuelos estos, y la Padiorna al fondo. Apuntada queda para elp roximo invierno.

Clasica vista camino de Cabaña Veronica.

Peña Vieja desde refugio y el cambio de tiempo.

Por suerte, a donde voy de momento no tiene nubes. Hay mas viene de la que pensaba...esto llega hasta Julio con bastante probabilidad.

Zona del LLambrion, igual de apetecible...pero esos cumulos me dicen que no vaya.

Pues nada, unos 350m de desnivel que restan. Todo tieso.

Ya queda menos y me adelantan dos esquiadores. Que calor, madre mia!

Una vez arriba, no espero mucho ya que temo que haya tormenta. Asi que a disfrutar estos ultimos giros.

Y de vuelta por el mismo camino. Empezo a llover algo cuando estaba cerca del teleferico de nuevo. El año que viene, mas y mejor, esperemos.

III - refu.Urriello-collada Santa Ana-Canalona-Cable 1, 2 y3 mayo 09 (Picos de Europa)

Salimos del refugio para despedirnos de el ya. Por suerte helo de noche y la neive esta dura, lo que facilita la progresion con crampones...claro que acosta de mas peso en la espalda por el tema raquetas..pero bueno.

Aqui la Morra desde la garganta del Jou SinTierre.

Nos dirigimos hacia el collado de Santa Ana a poco mas de 2500m para dar paso a la Canalona, que a su vez nos da paso a el Cable.

Aqui nos encontramos con Damian, un amigo de Pablo...justo en el collado. El venia del otro lado. La nieve aun estaba dura...y decimos hacer tiempo a que se pusiera la cosa un poco mas esquiable.

Vista de peña Vieja y el macizo Oriental desde el collado. Apuntada queda la bajada por las Moñetas.

Tras descender un centenar de m, damos vista a la Canalona. DEsde donde bajamos esquiando. Los primeros 20m estaban aun helados y yo opte por bajarlos con crampones. Luego ya genial.

Detalle del paso mas expuesto...pero bueno, esto es esqui de montaña,no?¿

Luego se abre ya disfrutar la pala, con excelente nieve primavera.

Asi hasta poco antes de llegar al Cable, en las lagunas de Lloroza, comenzando a deshelarse.

Tras media hora, llegamos el telefirco y bajamos de nuevo a la civilizacion tras 3 dias perfects de nieve, ski y Picos.

Salimos del refugio en direcion a la Brecha de los Cazadores, el mejor paso con nieve hacia Cabrones.

Aqui Pablo subiendo la parte mas pindia...luego al bajar me acordaria de la pendiente.

El paso expuesto pero con huella por suerte y tras una trepada tambien nos deja a casi 2400m con unas vistas hacia el Naranjo de espanto.

Claro que hacia el otro lado el tandem Cerredo-Cabrones le hacian la competencia. Menos mal que no hay que elegir...

Una panoramica de la zona que se ha currado Pablo.

Ladeando la cara N-NE del Neveron damos a la solada otra vez y pensamos las bajadas que haremos. Decimos primero la del Neveron, para luego atacar la Pardida.

Remontamos las inclinadas laderas del Neveron, hasta su arista cimera...estamos a 10m de cima...pero para que? hemos venido a bajar...y ya la tenemos en nuestro haber.

El sitio era de lo mas alpino, claro que habia que pagarlo puesto era muy pequeño para prepararse...eso sin contar un tropeizo o caida del material hasta sabe dios cuantos metros mas abajo...

Por suerto no hubo problemas, salvo nieve bastante dura y inclinacion que hizo tener la maxima precaucion. No obstante, todo salio bien...y ya desde la Pardida, vemos el bajadon que nos dimos.

Apocos metros de la cima....las vistas son alucinantes...alpino 100%

"Anivizando" en la cima de la Pardida, 2596m...con todo el Naranjo y su sector de fondo.

Y cima!!

La bajada con nieve polvo....fue una gozada!! Ay que ver lo que hacen las orientaciones!! Un pequeño video de una parte.

La bajada continua a la hrocada Arenera...donde lejana se ve la Pardida..parece mentira que vengamos de ahi..

Una vez ahi, comemos algo y remontamos de neuvo en direccion a a Brecha de los cazadores.

Avistamos de nuevo la vega y bajamos por donde subimos. Ahi se me ve en la esquina irqueirda.

Y una vez abajo por donde pasariamos. Nos calzamos los esquis/tabla donde empeiza la linea continua.

Ahota tocaba relajarse a la "sombra" del Naranjo y tomarse unos refrigerios.

I - Cable-peñas Urrieles-vega Urriello 1, 2 y 3 de mayo de 09 (Picos de Europa)

Salimos del Cable envueltos en niebla y nevando debilmente, sintoma de que el frente se iba llendo.

Al poco, abre totalmente siguiendo las prediciones meteorologicas.

La subida evidente hasta el collado de Horcados Rojos.

Luego tenemos que ir en direccion al Tesorero por las peñas Urrieles, pese al paso del frente de vez en cuando se nublaba...por suerte, nosotros estariamos por encima del nivel de nubes.

Debido a la cantidad de nieve, es peligroso ladear estas peñas y resulta mas facil salvar esta pequeña pared para proseguir por la arista...de la cual no hay fotos, habia que estar atentos a otras cosas.

La piridamidal cima de los picos de Santa Ana.

Tras superar la trepada y la arista, decidimos acercar lo mas posible al Tesorero. A unos 2500m nos ponemos las tablas, y disfrutamos los 4 este regalo de nieve polvo en estas fechas, gracias al frente y llegar justo tras el.

Seguimos gozando con una nieve excelente....

Si, si...estupenda!!!

Asi hasta abajo donde contemplamos los garabatos que hicimos.

Tras una ligera subida, de nuevo gozamos esta vez con nieve mas paposa al estar mas abajo al jou SinTierre.

Tras los ultimos 150m, con mucho calor y nieve blanda, damos vista al Picu...y disfrutando de las vistas, llegamos esquiando hasta el refugio.

Pico Coriscao, 2234m 2-4-09 (C.Cantabrica)

Pasamos con el coche el pueblo de Llanaves de la Reina para dejarlo lo mas cerca posible de donde empieza la pista del valle de la Culebreja. Por suerte la nevadilla ultima que cayo cubre desde el coche y ameniza un poco lo que de de por si es una aburrida pista. Aun asi, en pocos minutos vemos el Vallines.

Al fondo la sierra de Orpiñas, que se ha convertido en uno de mis sitios preferidos de ver de la cordillera.

La pista se acaba en nada la verdad, a los 45min ya estamos caminando por las palas.

El pico Vallines me gusto. No se si es muy visitado por esquiadores o por alguien, pues al igual que otros mas pequeños de aqui quedan a otro lado al tener el Coriscao y Fuentes Carrionas al lado, pero su bajada la vi cojonuda, eso si creo que desde la cima no puede ser.

En una especie de collado a 1900m, ya divisamos el Coriscao y por donde bajariamos posteriormente.

La nieve era de las cansadas...pero bueno, todo tiene ventajas...asi se entrena mas.

Aqui un video de los tipicos ultimos metros hasta la cima.

Y cima....era verdad esto que decian de las vistas del Coriscao. Hacia los Picos de Europa.

Hacia peña Prieta y Tres Provincias, una de las palas que se ven aho fue por donde baje hacia 3 semanas.

Hacia el valle de Liebana.

Y hacia el sur, con estos dos tipos aqui.

Y para abajo, desde la misma cima nos calzamos las tabla y a disfrutar...la pendiente es suavecita, sobre todo al principio.

Aqui alguno un video de un cachin de la bajada.

Y algunos de los garabatos que hicimos, salvo abajo del todo la nieve aunque pesada se dejaba esquiar bien.

Asi hasta donde acaba la pista...a unos 1650m nos calzamos de neuvos las raquetas y en poco mas de media hora pisamos la carretera. Aqui una union que me encanta....carretera, montañas nevadas y pinos....sera por esto por lo que tengo idealizadas las Rocosas, solo falta la linea en amarillo.

Pico Jeje, 2084m 3-Abril-2009 (C.Cantabrica)

Bueno, hoy tras haber ido ayer al Coriscao decidimos meterle el diente al pico Jeje que era el siguiente que tenia en mente de la zona tras haber ido por primera vez en Febrero al pico Faro.

Pey mirando hacia alli, pero hoy toca ir para la derecha.

Asi que nada enfilamos la primera cuesta que salva algo mas de 200m de desnivel bastante de golpe. Una vez acabada esa pala se dejan ver vistas ya, hacia el pico la Solana....tambien muy apatecible...

Y hacia el Nogales con una bajada de la leche hasta la carretera. Sin duda quedan apuntadas.

Pero hoy nuestro objetivo es el Jeje, esa mole blanca a tope para nosotros.

Venga!!! que estamos ahi ya!

Y cima, pico Jeje 2084m. Esta muy bien posicionado este pico, ligeramente al norte del cordal al que pertenece las vistas hacia Aller y el norte en general estan muy bien.

Ahora toca bajar. Los ultimos metros a la cima hacia una especie de murete bastante inclinado debido a toda la nieve que hay. Aqui en la parrilla de salida.

Muy intereante toda la bajada, la pala impresionante. Nieve pues la que hay en estas fechas, pero se dejaba asi......que levante la mano quien se queje.

Aqui pey con lo que ibamos dejando atras.

Posteriormente y para rematar esta super agracedida bajada, se llega hasta el coche por una especie de semi tubo...alguna semejanza tiene la verdad que va hacia la izquierda.

Un 10 al Jeje....tanto subes, tanto bajas...Me encanto la verdad, un sitio rapido ademas para dias donde por tiempo o ganas no apetecen empresas mayores.

Y ahora queda volver para Asturias.....lastima que no haya carretera, pero bueno..quien se queja con buena musica, brazo al fresco y vistas como estas...de la N del Bodon.

Pico Fornos por Wamba Way, 1931m 26-3-09 (C.Cantabrica)

Bueno hoy jueves me apetecia una salida "expres" asi que me decanto por la pista de Wamba, con intencion de hacer en principio la peña del Viento.

Me voy acercando.

Sigue el deshielo...toda esta nieve que poco a poco a ido acumulandpse desde octubre en pocas semanas ya, habra pasado a mejor vida.

A estas palas me dirigia. Ala derecha esta la verdadera peña del Viento, el pico de la izquierda fue el que al final subi pensando que era la que queria....pero bueno da igual, la bajada era buena. Asi que una excusa para volver.

Buscando las buenas fotografias.

Y la mejor parte de la bajada, se intuyen muy poco en la foto las huellas. Estuvo bien corta pero rapida....que mas se puede pedir para algo "express"

A la vuelta me fije en el Toneo y un descenso a simple viste interesante, aunque se extrecha demaseado en una zona. Habra que mirar como de inclinada esta esa canalilla.

Pico Cebolleda, 2056m 20-marzo-09 (C.Cantabrica)

Vuelvo al puerto de panderruedas donde habia estado con pablo hace 2 semanas. Esta bien hay mucha nieve tambien pero un calor......de la virgen. En cualquier caso a diferencia de la otra vez enfilo la pista para hacer o bien el Gildar o el Cebolledas por el cual me decante.

Macizo Central, asoman perfectamente la Palanca y el LLambrion.

Tras cerca de hora y media por la pesima pista....y eso qu eno sabia lo que me esperaba a la vuelta.

Ganando altura se ven peña Ten y peña Pileñes destacando.

Una vez superado una especia de collado me decido por el Cebolleda, aunque como sabria despues el Gildar tiene una mejor esquiada...pero hay que dejas cosas para temporadas venideras. Cara Norte del Cebolledas, invernal aun pese al calor.

Y cima...

La bajada fue mala, que no arrepentida..jaja. Primero se me olvidaron los guantes....y ya puestos a arañarme si cayese acabe bajando en camiseta solamente, pero la bajada era muy indirecta habia que tender a la izquierda siempre con lo que casi no podia girar....algo asi como se ve en la foto. Adema suna vez pase esa pala...la nieve era papa, papa.

En cualquier caso, cerca de 400m de desnivel no me los quito....pero tras ver todo el nucleo de cimas de aqui, sin duda el Gildar es la mejor opcion...y encima la deseche 2 veces ya.

Hacia un calor de la virgen....sabria cuando llegue al coche que eran 16ºC que con toda la nieve eran como 40.....Asi que me tiro en un riachuelo un rato...total que prisa hay.

El deshielo comienza....

Pese al calor legue hasta aqui en 3h....bien la pista que seran unos 3km solamente me llevo el resto de la duracion, 2h!!!!! Dios mio....ni con raquetas, te hundias como fuera.....y encima con toda la solana...subes y bajas....Pero bueno, sarna con gusto no pica...pero raquetear con esta nieve todos sabemos lo que tiene. Al final 850m de desnivel para el cuerpo y un pico mas.

A ver la semana que viene por cual o cuales me decante...auqnue espero que enfire un poco, que con este calor los telesillas tientan, sobre todo sin actividad super definida.

Pico Tres Provincias, 2499m 14-3-09 (C.Cantabrica)

Salimos de Llanaves de la Reina y quedamos fascinados por la sierra de Orpiñas. De lo mas fotogenica con pinos y una alpina cara norte. No dudamos en tirar algunas fotos.

Con el Boqueron de Bobias al fondo, que es donde nos dirigimos para dar paso al otro valle.

Una vez superado el Boqueron, solo queda una largisima pala desde los 1959 hasta los 2450m...que superamos poco a poco.

Los ultimos 50m a la cima se hacen por la arista.

Y cima!! Pico Tres Provincias, 2499m. Un gigante de la cordillera.

Las vistas son espectaculares.

La bajada excepcional. Muy buena tanto por el itinerario de bajada como por la nieve que tuve...Desde la cima hasta el Boqueron de Bobias hacen unos 700m de desnivel or una pala amplia y luego por un medio tubo si quieres y con vistas magnificas. Luego del Boqueron or ultimo hasta el llano otros casi 400m de desnivel.

Pico Freñana, 1856m 27-2-09 (C.Cantabrica)

Partimos de Panderruedas y nos metemos en un impresionante bosque.

Las peñas Cifuentes aparecen entre las ramas.

Saliendo del bosque, nos dirigimos hacia el Freñana por una linea de cumbres menores.

Y cima, o cimita claro, pico Freñana 1856m. Un pico de estos que nunca se te pasa por la cabeza como posibilidad cuando sales de monte, la verdad que acabamos aqui de casualidad.

Caligrafia de la mejor y unica pala de la bajada. El carecer de mapa, conocer la zona y sus posibilidad hizo que descenriamos poco y que mas que nada el dia fuera de disfrutar del bosque, llegar al coche de la mejor forma posible..lo cual fue llendo por la carretera.

Un video de la bajada...como se ve, hasta en el mas improvisado de los dias siempre hay cosas que recordar y sumar experiencia y disfrute bien acompañado.

We left the car in Ventana pass. We started surrounding Rebollosas peak as far as a col.

Pablo and Alberta went on fastly.

We were nearly the summit. Fontanes at the backgrounds.

Southern peaks, a world to find out!

And summit!

In spite of being a tipycal activity for skiing, it did not seem to me a great descent. It was good, but it was not nearly amazing.

I rose a peak nameless, but it had a nice slope to be descended. The woods of Redes Park are a treasure that we have to keep.

Later, I chose the Cascayon peak to finish the day with a actual summit.

The Sun got hit me hardly.

I turned back to the car tired, but with two descendt.

I drove to Vegarada pass. To get it, I had to rise Pajares and later turn to the left through Carmenes and Piedrafita. There isn´t road from Cabañaquinta to Vegarada. Due to it, one hour more of driving is required to get it from Asturias.

If you have time enough and you like driving, the only negative aspect is the gas extra expense.

The day featured sunny and warm.

I went to the rocky peak.

A beatiful "corner" of that zone. I liked walking over there. It was wilder than other zones.

I followed my way on my own.

I filmed the descent with my helmet camera. I wish It had worked in the following descents.
